New Orleans Docket: Wasp-Related Negligence

John B____ v. Vasamth Bethala, Manager; LQ12 LLC dba LaQuinta Inn & Suites; James River Ins. Co., No. 2011-12066 F (22d Dist. Jud. Ct. La., filed Apr. 7, 2011).

Negligence action. While the plaintiff was staying on the third floor of the defendants' hotel, a wasp flew into his room. While the plaintiff was attempting to kill the wasp, he fell out of the window.

As the submitter accurately notes, this would be "the second in the category of 'Guests at Louisiana Hotels Who Manage to Seriously Injure Themselves While Battling Insects.'" (This was the first.) Or, at least, now that we have at least two examples of that, it's eligible for its own category.

League fines New York Jets $100,000 for tripping incident - ESPN New York

Jets fined $100K for tripping incident

ESPN.com news services

NEW YORK -- The NFL has fined the New York Jets $100,000 for violating league rules when assistant coach Sal Alosi tripped Miami's Nolan Carroll on the sideline during a punt return.

The Jets were fined Thursday because Alosi placed players in a prohibited area on the sideline to impede opposing team's special teams players and gain a competitive advantage. The NFL called it a competitive violation as well as a dangerous tactic.

"We will comply with the league's decision," said a Jets spokesperson.

The NFL's fine also included a penalty due to special teams coach Mike Westhoff's statements to the media that he had seen the same thing from the Patriots in earlier games. The NFL's statement said that the NFL constitution and bylaws require teams to report suspected violations to the NFL, not to put it out there publicly.

The Jets suspended Alosi without pay for the rest of the season after the Dec. 12 incident and fined him $25,000.

Information from ESPNNewYork.com's Jane McManus and The Associated Press was used in this report.

One possible solution Healthcare solution we can all live with:

All illegal aliens (men & women) in America or aliens that enter the country desiring to become US citizens should be required to join the military and serve 4 years with honor. With military service enlistments at an all-time low, this would solve more than one issue including finding them a job, thereby reducing unemployment.

When complete, they can come home and get government-run healthcare (from the VA) like the rest of us vets are entitled to FOR FREE if they can't afford it. We already educate their children so that burden would not change anyway.
That takes care of 15 million of the immigrant needy (source Wikipedia) and deals with the border/immigration over-population issues. Out of three hundred + million citizens (source: USCB), only 15 million (4%) of true Americans would be left needing healthcare. Hey, they can join the service, too. Or search the Internet at any public library and find a job instead of sleeping and drinking away the day.
To recap, we just cut the healthcare spending in half, solved the immigration problem, reduced the 10+% unemployment issue, and added strength to our military with additional defenses  and I'm not even in Congress.

And I did it all on one page!
